Heins takes the stage – Goldbeck and Katja Kessler bring metropolitan design flair to the H1 in Bielefeld.

Goldbeck has revitalised the iconic H1 building, formerly known as the Post or Telekom Tower. In 2023, Bielefeld University, selected business units from Goldbeck, and the staffing agency Piening moved into office spaces within the building. The overall concept of Bielefeld’s only high-rise perfectly reflects the region’s character in an engaging manner – and now “Heins,” arguably the city’s most charming host, has found its home in H1. For the interior design, Goldbeck enlisted the award-winning designer Katja Kessler.

Bielefeld, May 27, 2024.

“Heins,” the heart and soul of the building, embodies a branding concept that ties together everything H1 has to offer. A human name feels perfectly fitting – much like people, buildings create a home, tell stories, and evolve over time.

On the ground and first floors of the H1, “Heins” invites external guests to experience the restaurant Heins speist and the co-working space Heins arbeitet, both set to open in summer 2024. The concept is further complemented by Heins ruht, a boarding house exclusively for Goldbeck employees, and Heins trifft, a penthouse conference floor designed for meetings and events for H1 tenants and partner companies. The conference spaces are enhanced by a lounge offering breathtaking views over Bielefeld. To bring “Heins” to life, Goldbeck enlisted award-winning interior designer Katja Kessler, who crafted a truly exceptional interior design concept.

Katja Kessler Delivers the Design Concept

Katja Kessler, the creative genius behind Katja Kessler Kreation and winner of the prestigious London SBID Award, is a master in distinctive, narrative-driven interior design. “For me, it’s about the people, not the furniture. I wanted the new space to be a place where people feel happy. The style is as unique as the people who will work, dine, and stay here: a mix of cool and cozy, old and new, traditional and crazy, flea market finds and designer pieces. East Westphalia meets London and New York. I want people to find themselves smiling without even realizing it.” This eclectic and welcoming style is now reflected throughout the special spaces and entrance area of the H1.

Heins Moves In

“The H1 is an iconic landmark for Bielefeld. It represents continuity, yet also embodies something entirely new – a fusion of tradition and innovation, history and the future. This essence is clearly reflected in both the design concept and the ‘Heins’ brand,” says Jan-Hendrik Goldbeck, managing partner of Goldbeck, alongside his brother Jörg-Uwe. “We are delighted that Katja Kessler, with her distinctive approach to unconventional design, has transformed the unique spaces within the H1 into a true visual masterpiece. From the outset, she grasped our vision, captured the building’s atmosphere, and, with meticulous attention to detail, reimagined the interior in a completely unique way.” The fully furnished spaces pay tribute to the building’s history as a telecommunications tower, while confidently embracing a new identity: a welcoming atmosphere that seamlessly blends avant-garde style with retro charm.

A Magnetic Force in the Heart of Bielefeld

“Existing elements should be embraced, and styles thoughtfully combined,” emphasises Jörg-Uwe Goldbeck. “Those who visit ‘Heins’ in the future can look forward to comfortable workspaces, exceptional dining, and stunning views.” He adds, “We hope that ‘Heins,’ with its diverse range of offerings and excellent transport links, will become a central hub in the heart of Bielefeld’s city centre.”

The H1

As a Bielefeld-based company, Goldbeck is committed to showcasing the distinctive H1 building, situated centrally at Kesselbrink. The revitalisation of the 76-metre-high H1, along with the construction of a new parking garage and office building, enhances the surrounding area and strengthens its connection to Neumarkt. In mid-2023, Goldbeck Services moved into the building, occupying three floors. As an office space, the H1 offers attractive workspaces across 17 floors in a prime location, contributing to the rejuvenation of the city centre. The nearby parking garage, still under construction, will provide additional parking for H1 users, while dining options and co-working spaces complete the offering.
